Addressing the Gap between Higher Education and the Labour Market in Libya

6, July 2022 - Tripoli, "Adjusting the outputs of higher education to the requirements of the labour market" workshop was held at the University of Tripoli, organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and in cooperation with the Ministry of Technical Education and the EU4PSL project funded by the European Union and implemented by Expertise France.

Many topics were discussed during the workshop, including the reasons for the gap between the outputs of education and the labour market and how to coordinate with all ministries, relevant authorities and stakeholders from the public and private sectors to reduce this gap, reduce unemployment and attract and invest in local talents.

Among the attendees were Dr. Saleh Al-Ghoul - Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Dr. Masouda Al-Aswad - Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education, Dr. Taher Bin Taher, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Technical Education, Dr. Mahmoud Al Futaisi, Director of the National Council for Economic and Social Development, Mr. José Alegre - Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Libya and Ms. Lucia Santuccione – Project manager at the EU Delegation to Libya, and from Expertise France, Mr. Julien Schmitt - Director of Programs, Mr. Mohamed Al-Aswad, Deputy Director of Programs. And also among the attendees were Mr. Mohamed Al-Raidh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Union of Chambers of Commerce, Ms. Nadia Gellal from the University of the Southern Mediterranean in Tunisia, and via Zoom, Mr. Marcello Scalisi- Director of UNIMED in Italy.

The workshop also included many presentations and recommendations from the ladies and gentlemen participating in the event to develop the appropriate mechanisms that ensure the continuation of the labour market's capabilities to absorb graduates of universities and higher institutes.
